If any of the following sound familiar, here’s how to train your brain to make yourself stronger than your excuses…

I get at least two messages every day that start with “I really need to lose weight BUT…”

  • I just don’t have the time
  • I work full time
  • I have no motivation
  • I love food/prosecco too much
  • I’ve got children
  • I’ve got a bad back
  • I’ve tried everything

Of course my response is not, “well if you’re already making excuses, then I’m not sure what you believe hiring a personal trainer is actually going to do for you…” (ok, sometimes it is!) But only because I’m not aware of another approach that works, other than being upfront and honest. Maybe sometimes even too honest…

I believe we always have a choice: we can either focus on the solution or the problem. And if we continue to focus on the problem, the problem will always be there.

If you’ve ever heard yourself making any of the above excuses, just tell yourself instead: “I want to lose weight, but right now it’s not a priority for me.”

That way, you’re being honest not just with me (whether I’m your personal trainer or not) but most importantly with yourself!

I’ve trained single mums, who work full time with extremely long commutes, who plan their meals, batch cook healthily from scratch and STILL make incredible lifestyle transformations.

I’ve worked with mums who have special needs children, run their own businesses, have a family AND volunteer their time for free in the community who STILL exercise regularly and find time to eat a healthy diet that benefits their whole family.

Personally, I spent my childhood unhealthy and unhappy which left me suffering with anxiety, depression and numerous digestive health problems that I only sorted out once and for all five years ago.

I adjusted my diet and now prioritise meal planning and eating in a way that suits my body, I run my own personal training and boot camp businesses AND am away most weekends and guess what? I exercise every day, and consistently remain a healthy weight! And as this Saturday is my birthday, I’ll more than likely be enjoying an afternoon tea!

The truth is – not matter what it is that you want, whether it’s to lose weight, get a new job or move to Australia – you either focus on the solution or you keep focusing on the problem, asking yourself why it hasn’t gone away.

The choice is ALWAYS yours!
