Hope you’re feeling great and your 2018 is off to a positive and smiling start 😊 Especially as often the colder weather, darker days (and in Southampton’s case severe lack of sunshine…) following the sparkling excitement of Christmas can leave us feeling a little deflated and anything but motivated.
So to help get your motivation back, support you and make your January even more fun, may I present the “Green Juice January Challenge!”
It’s where you (and anyone in your house who’s up for it) drink a Green Juice every day in January (or for a set time period such as 10 days.) It’s a fun way to challenge yourself and develop an extremely healthy new habit, to form part of your long-term healthier lifestyle.
Why should I try it?
A green juice the easiest (and tastiest) way to incorporate tremendous amounts of greens into your daily diet and much more fun than ‘just eating your vegetables’! Greens have more valuable nutrients than any other food group on the planet. One serving of green juice contains more than many people eat in a whole week!
An interesting fact about greens is they also contain high-quality, easily-assimilated amino acids; enough to build protein that supports muscle mass. Blending helps make greens’ full nutrition spectrum readily available to the body, helping it absorb their maximum amount.
My husband and I now drink a green juice every day (we certainly notice the difference if we go away and go without one!) My personal training clients and Boot camp attendees have also noticed the following side effects since they have started doing the same:

How do I get started?
You just need a good blender! My favourite is the Enpee but the Nutri-bullet/Ninja are also great and affordable. Stick with 80% veggies and 20% fruit, here’s some examples to experiment with (and opt for organic where possible:)
- 2 x handfuls leafy greens: spinach/romaine lettuce/kale/chard
- 1 large celery stick/chunk of cucumber. You can also add a small piece of peeled fresh ginger
- juice of ½ a lemon or lime (optional)
- 1 x pear/apple
- few chunks mango/fresh pineapple
- Handful fresh herbs: mint/parsley/coriander
Blend the leafy greens with around 200ml water first. Then add the rest of your ingredients and blend until smooth.
Maintaining this one healthy habit will give your body a HUGE daily dose of nutrients, enzymes and vitamins that are VITAL to its every function, no matter what else happens throughout the day. All you have to do is give yourself the chance 😉
